About Me

I'm a technologist and computer scientist with wide interests in the intersections of technology with society and science. I love diving deep into technical information, then explaining complicated technical concepts to audiences outside a given technical specialty. My recent work has focused on software quality, binary analysis, cybersecurity, and cognitive psychology. I have experience leading teams and shepherding research prototypes into user-facing products.

I graduated from Amherst College in 2004, majoring in Computer Science. I graduated from New York University School of Law in 2007, with a J.D. I worked for several years as an intellectual property litigator in New York before returning to computer science. I completed my Ph.D. (Identification of Software Failures in Complex Systems Using Low-Level Execution Data) in Carnegie Mellon University's Computer Science Department in September 2020. My Ph.D. advisor was Claire Le Goues in SquaresLab, and I worked with her on the applications of low-level analysis in software engineering. I also collaborated with Philip Koopman and roboticists at NREC on robotics applications for software quality techniques.

I'm eligible to practice law in New York and Massachusetts. I enjoy theater, literature, and knitting. I was a founding producer of the Carnegie Mellon School of Computer Science musical. I visited all seven continents during my sabbatical year, 2009-2010. I have been trained to operate industrial tuggers and pallet jacks.
